2017 was the safest year in aviation history

According to Dutch aviation consulting firm To70 and the Aviation Safety Network, no commercial jet fatalities were recorded during 2017, making last year the safest in the history of aviation. No jets crashed with passengers abroad anywhere in the world.

The death accident toll on commercial flights is 0.06 per million, which means one fatal accident for every 16 million flights.

In total, 10 fatal airliner accidents occurred in the world, which caused 79 deaths. 44 persons died onboard and 35 on the ground . The accidents took place in Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, the United States, Nepal, Cote D'Ivoire, Russia, Tanzania, Canada and Costa Rica. No mortal accidents were reported in Europe. 

The deadliest of those incidents took place last January in Kyrgyzstan, where a Turkish cargo jet crashed into a village while trying to land in dense fog. All 4 onboard lost their lives, and 35 people died on the ground as well. 

The last fatal jet airliner accident in the world happened on November 2016, when LaMia Flight 2933, which transported the Brazilian Chapecoense football squad, crashed near the city of Medellín, Colombia. 71 of 77 people onboard lost their lives.
