The President of the Catalan Parliament, Roger Torrent, has confirmed Jordi Sànchez no longer aspires to the Catalan presidency. Thus, he'll start conversations with the political groups to find a new candidate, probably Jordi Turull.
Through letter, Sànchez has accused the Spanish government of violating his political rights. The former ANC leader remains imprisoned waiting for trial for his implication in the disorders of last September.
He is the second candidate the nationalists fail to invest after being unable to elect Carles Puigdemont. The former President was their first option, but chose to remain as a fugitive in Belgium.
Consquently, the three nationalist parties, JxCat, ERC and CUP negotiate to propose a third candidate. Former Minister of Presidency Jordi Turull is likely to be the compromise candidate.
