The film saga created by George Lucas has changed the lifes of many generations, since those baby boomers that fell in love with “A New Hope” in 1977 to the Postmillenials that first made contact with the saga with the première of “The Force Awakens” in 2015.
“Star Wars” has created a whole new universe and generated millions of fans around th globe. But not everybody knows that his creator didn't have much faith in the project. In 1997, Episode IV was only premiered in 32 cinemas in the United States, but it's early success changed the story of cinema forever.
Whether you are a huge fan of the saga or a newbie to the Star Wars' universe, here are 10 facts you may not know about Star Wars.
1. Luke Skywalker was going to be called Starkiller.
In the first sketch of the script that George Lucas created, Luke had another name. Instead of being called Skywalker, Luke would have said no to his father with the surname 'Starkiller'.
2. George Lucas wanted a trained monkey to play Yoda's role.
By the time “The Empire strikes back” was filmed, film producers didn't have the technology they have nowadays. Yoda couldn't be created by computer, so the director thought a monkey could play the role instead.
3. Star Wars story is based in “The Hidden Fortress”.
The idea behind this movies comes from Akira Kurosawa's film. The Japanese director was a close friend of George Lucas.
4. Stormtrooper's helmet is inspired in nazi soldiers' helmet.
Boba Fett's clones were created imitating the style of the German Soldiers during World War 2.
5. In a first screenplay sketch ,Yoda was called 'Buffy'.
The master who taught Luke how to use the force, could have been named 'Buffy'. That was the name the director chose in a first script sketch.
6. There is much more story beside the 'Episodes'.
Biggest fans of the saga know there is an 'Expanded Universe' were much more characters and stories are revealed through comics, series and video games.
7. 'Ewoks' name is never told in the saga.
This little cute creatures that helped Leia and Han Solo are never oficially named in the movies.
8. Qui-Gon's transmitter is actually a shaving razor.
Obi-Wan's master, the heroic Qui-Gon Jinn speaks with the 'Jedi Council' through a transmitter in “The Phantom Menace”. It was actually a shaving razor.
9. Actor behind C3PO and Jar Jar are also extras.
Both actors play their roles under costumes, but Lucas wanted to give them a little chance of showing their faces, that is, without a costume. They were part of the extras in the cantina scenes.
10. Many fans call R2D2 'Arturito'
That is the way the name of George Lucas favourite character sounds when pronounced in Spanish.
