'The Shape of Water' surprised almost everybody and won the Best Picture Award at the Oscar Ceremony in Los Angeles. Guillermo del Toro's movie, a fairytale about a mute woman that falls in love with an amphibian creature, earned 4 Oscars. Among them, the Best Director Award for the Mexican filmmaker, Best Original Score and Best Production Design.

Less surprising were the acting categories where the favorite candidates won. The Academy recognized Frances McDormand as the best actress for her outstanding performance in 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri'. Meanwhile, Gary Oldman received the Oscar for his role as Sir Winston Churchill in 'Darkest Hour'. Additionally, Pixar's Coco won the Best Animated Film and the Best Original Song Awards.

Compared to 2017 troubled ceremony, this year's was rather plain, with some feminist speeches, but far away from what we saw at the Golden Globes.
