The judge of the Supreme Court Pablo Llarena has accused 13 nationalist leaders of rebellion for their participation in the independence process of Catalonia. Among the accused politicians are former President Carles Puigdemont, former Vice President Oriol Junqueras and candidate to the Presidency Jordi Turull.
Both of them, along with former President of the Parliament, Carme Forcadell, and former Ministers, Raul Romeva, Josep Rull, Joaquim Forn and Dolors Bassa will remain in prison awaiting for trial. One leader of ERC, Marta Rovira, has fled to Switzerland to avoid prison. Therefore, she joins fellow fugitives Carles Puigdemont and Toni Comín who remain in Belgium.
Five other former members of the Government are accused of misuse of public funds and disobedience. The man who started the process, former Catalan President Artur Mas, avoids any criminal indictment.
